My father-in-law, Frank Zarkowski was a member of the crew that commissioned the USS Augusta in 1931 and served on board for several years, he also helped build the ship; working on it for 6 months before it was commissioned. He was in the asiatic fleet on the USS Augusta from 1933 to 1935. Then he was transferred to a mine layer until 1937. He remembers going swimming in the morning with Captain Nimitz and having nets thrown out to protect from the sharks. He is 90 years old, but very alert and remembers a lot about the ship. I don't know what memorabilia he has, but we were searching the internet for information on the ship when we discovered the home page and he told me a lot about it. I am sure he would not mind answering any questions and telling you what he knows. He says he has navy records of all the places they went.
