This is a real shot in the dark but I thought I'd try. My father was on PT 556 in the Mediterranean in 1944. His PT boat frequently worked with the USS Augusta, especially after the invasion of southern France. PT 556 took some men from the Augusta to the island of Porquerolles August 22, 1944 to take German prisioners. As the PT boat was returning the men to the Augusta after the mission, flags were raised on the Augusta that said, "PT 556 Work Well Done." According to my father, someone on the Augusta took a picture of this. The PT 556 was also working with the Augusta when PT 555 was mined and sank. Does anyone remember any of this or have any further information?
