Friars' ability to focus fuels lopsided victory

The raw emotion spilled out of the locker room and onto the field.

The St. Anthony's football team was angry. A week filled with distractions was coming to a head with a date against rival Chaminade in a CHSFL AAA semifinal game.

The resignation of longtime offensive coordinator Fred Gallagher Jr. left many players confused. The transfer of starting sophomore halfback and leading rusher Kevin Hahn days before the biggest game of the season also was upsetting.

But while all the controversy swirled around them, the Friars banded together and followed the lead of coach Rich Reichert as they try to become the first CHSFL team to win four consecutive titles...READ THE COMPLETE NEWSDAY ARTICLE   

Game Highlights
It was a gorgeous day for a football game, and this one was being played out on the Grade A turf at the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy.

Chaminade struck first with a field goal by Michael Dubon. The Flyers were pumped up, however Dubon's three points were all they were able to put up on the scoreboard for the rest of the game. From there on in all the scoring was done  by the Men in Black.

Doug Cion had 112 yards on 16 carries for St. Anthony's. 

St. Anthony's took the lead for good, 6-3, on an 80-yard pass from Chris Eanuzel to Brian Bogdanski with three minutes left in the first quarter.

Tom Carberry slashed through the Flyer defense all afternoon with the help of a dominant offensive line. Except for a first quarter field goal the Friar defense was rock solid.
