DREAM SEASON

It's hard to determine exactly which statistic was the most telling. Perhaps it was St. Anthony's 150-plus yard advantage in the first half. Maybe it was all but one first-half play taking place in Farrell's end of the field. Give consideration to St. Anthony's holding Farrell (Staten Island) to two first-half first downs.

Whatever it was, the anticipated game of the year between the two CHSFL powers very quickly became the romp of the year, as St. Anthony's trounced Farrell, 47-0, Friday night in front of a standing-room only home crowd. These teams have met in the last two league title games.

"We showed what we're capable of," St. Anthony's coach Rich Reichert said. "We didn't make mistakes, we had the intensity, and we didn't let up."

The win gave St. Anthony's, the four-time defending CHSFL champ, its 56th straight regular-season league victory.

From the game's second play from scrimmage, No. 1 St. Anthony's was in control. Quarterback Chris Eanuzel's pass down the right sideline tipped off Farrell defensive back Joseph Conforti's fingers and into receiver Sean Burke's hands for a 47-yard score.

"Burke's a great receiver and makes me look like a great quarterback," Eanuzel said. "Without him, I don't even want to think about it."

In the next 13 minutes, St. Anthony's (2-1, 2-0) scored four touchdowns and added a field goal to take a 37-0 lead with 9:30 remaining in the half.

During the blistering stretch, St. Anthony's twice scored on its first play, and one time on its second play. The Friars had two interceptions and one fumble recovery. Farrell is 1-1, 1-1.

Vinny Panarelli, who finished with 77 yards on 12 carries, had touchdown runs of 19 and 12 yards. Eanuzel ran for a 23-yard score and also hit Burke on a 43-yard bomb down the middle of the field.

"I definitely wasn't expecting to be sitting out the second half in this game with a lead that big," Eanuzel said. "The blowout totally surprises me. They're a great team, but we just took it to them."

The second half became an opportunity for St. Anthony's to get its second and third units of its 86-man roster some playing time. Daniel Sutter scored on an 88-yard run.
