Young leads Chaminade over 'Pequa

Matt Cowley slowly retreated to an empty bench before batting a water bottle to the ground. While Massapequa's other bench players stood along the sideline watching the action, the senior midfielder couldn't hide his frustration as his team controlled the ball with six minutes left in yesterday's non-league boys lacrosse game at Chaminade.Seconds later, Chaminade goalie Vincent DePasquale made one of his 14 saves, stopping Massapequa's Chris Hurst. And on the resulting possession, junior attack Ryan Young scored the last of his career-high five goals as host Chaminade took a five-goal lead in its impressive 10-6 win over the defending Nassau Class A champs.
"We try to play the best non-conference schedule we can play," said Chaminade coach Jack Moran, whose defending CHSAA champion Flyers lost a one-goal game to Massapequa last season. "It was a measuring stick to see how good we might be."
And how good Young could be. He also had three assists in this, his second varsity game and played a part in each of the Flyers' first-half goals as they turned a 3-1 deficit into a 6-3 lead.
Young started the five-goal run with a dodge and dish to set up J.T. Milone's goal with 2:03 left in the first period, and assisted on Brendan Gibson's equalizer with 3:39 left in the half. He then scored twice in a 49-second span, the second a conversion of a Colin Tigh centering pass that gave the Flyers (2-0) a 5-3 lead with 1:46 left...COMPLETE STORY
