UNIONDALE, N.Y. -- Zack Greer scored a season-high seven goals and Matt Danowski produced four goals and four assists to lead third-ranked Duke to a 16-9 win over Dartmouth in men's college lacrosse action on Saturday afternoon at the Mitchel Sports Complex in Uniondale, N.Y. Saturday's contest between the Blue Devils and Big Green was played on Long Island to benefit Autism Awareness and Lacrosse for Autism Youth Clinics.
The Blue Devils improve to 10-1 on the year while the Big Green falls to 4-4. Duke has now won all 10 meetings between the two schools.
Just over one minute into the game, Max Quinzani gave Duke a 1-0 lead on a goal from Greer. Dartmouth responded at the 11:28 mark when Josh Gillam scored off a pass from Brian Koch. The Blue Devils then went on a 3-0 run midway through the period as Matt Danowski, Greer and Mike Catalino each found the back of the net in a span of 1:05. The Big Green answered with consecutive goals by Gillam at the 6:20 and 3:00 marks to pull within 4-3 before Quinzani ended the first quarter scoring with his second tally with 34 seconds left.
After Ari Sussman scored for Dartmouth at the 9:22 mark of the second quarter, Greer scored three straight goals in less than three minutes to give the Blue Devils a 8-4 advantage. Two of the three markers came on assists from Danowski. Dartmouth's Philip Killian made the score 8-5 with two minutes left before halftime, and Danowski sent the teams into intermission with an unassisted goal with just three seconds on the clock.
Greer got things going early in the third quarter with his fifth goal of the game just nine seconds into the period. After Danowski scored with 13:20 left, Greer's two tallies at the 7:33 and 2:57 marks pushed Duke out to a 13-5 advantage. The two teams split four total goals in the final quarter to account for the final margin.

Duke playing lacrosse in Hofstra's backyard - Newsday 3/27/08
(The (Duke) Chronicle) - When No. 3 Duke travels to Uniondale, N.Y. to play Dartmouth Saturday, it obviously won't be a home game. But for some of the Blue Devils, it might as well be.
With a whopping 18 members of the team hailing from the state of New York, Duke (9-1) is looking forward to quite a reception in its first trip to the Empire State since a 2005 visit to face Army.
"We'll have a sick home crowd because some of the guys are from Long Island, so that will be fun for them," midfielder Sam Payton said. Payton, who hails from Cos Cob, Conn., is one of 29 Blue Devils not from New York.
In comparison, only eight of the Big Green's 43 players come from New York. Dartmouth (4-3) is located in Hanover, N.H., and the match is being played at a supposed neutral site.
Despite the obvious advantages of having a strong fan base away from campus, head coach John Danowski warned his team against getting too excited for its homecoming of sorts...read rest of story
