for Divine Services and Luncheon, Sunday August 10, 1941.
1. The President will embark in
U.S.S. McDOUGAL at 1030. McDOUGAL will proceed
alongside H.M.S. PRINCE OF WALES, bow to stern,
McDOUGAL starboard side to starboard quarter PRINCE
OF WALES. Using PRINCE OF WALES crane. brow will be
swung from McDOUGAL to PRINCE OF WALES, and the
President will proceed on board. At the termination
of the anthem, after the guard of honor has sloped

ranks of enlisted personnel to his chair on the
fantail, near the after hatch.
2. During Divine Services moving
pictures may be taken. Following Divine Services,
still pictures and movie close-ups of the President,
the Prime Minister, and their staffs may be taken. At
this time, the President prefers not to make any
recorded talk for the sound pictures. Instead, he
would be delighted to talk informally to those
invited to the luncheon, and the end of the luncheon.
3. After the pictures have been
taken, the President will inspect the top side in
his wheelchair, and I understand ramps will be
provided to facilitate this. This inspection will end
in the Wardroom, as the President has expressed a
desire to meet all the officers of PRINCE OF WALES
before luncheon.
4. After luncheon is
over, the President will embark in McDOUGAL. The brow
will be rigged from the deck of PRINCE OF WALES to
the superstructure deck of McDOUGAL. The President
will walk across to superstructure deck of McDOUGAL.

5. For your information, the
President is never photographed when walking, or in
his wheelchair. However, it is perfectly all right to
take pictures when he is standing still or sitting in
a large chair.
6. If there are any other further
suggestions, I would very much appreciate your
letting us know.
J.R. BEARDALL,
Captain, U.S. Navy,
Naval Aide to the President.
