5/12/42 - from USS Augusta to Augusta's Air Aviation Unit ("V Division") for duty 12/1/42- promotion from S2c to AOM3c 10/1/43 - promotion from ACM3c to ACM2c V6 4/21/44 - assigned to RAF Gosport, England (in preparation for the Normandy landings the Augusta's scout observation planes and the V Division was detailed for temporary duty with the RAF) 7/11/44 - to French Naval Air Station, Arzeu, Algeria for temporary duty 8/31/44 - return to the Augusta from NOB Palermo, Sicily 9/17/44 - orders to report to Lt. Smith Naval Air Material Center, Philadelphia Naval Yard 12/4/44 - to scout observation service unit, two, NAS Norfolk, Virginia Harold Swanson, of Massapequa Park, NY passed away on November 6, 2007 at the age of 87. Beloved husband of the late Lillian. Loving father of Robert, Carol Dyer (Bill), Janice Jones (Sean) and the late Paul. Cherished grandfather of Tom, Jeff and Alison Dyer, Kristen and Erik Jones. Loving brother of Edward Swanson, Rosella Neidinger and the late William Swanson and Annabelle King. Caring brother-in-law of Robert Watson. Retired New York City Fireman, and proud WWII Navy Veteran.
